Doctor Foster and Top of the lake questions#

1)

In Top of the lake the main character is detective Griffin is being represented as a women who is in control of everyone else as she is leading the operation but also someone who other people lean on, this position seems to be hurting her emotionally as she never looks happy.

In Doctor Foster the lead is a married women who suspects that her husband is cheating on her when she finds a blonde hair on her husbands jacket. She is a represented as happy at first then worried once she finds the hair she becomes worried and paranoid.

2)

In top of the lake the lead women doesn't fit in the previous conception of women as she is head of the operation she is not a damsel in distress but is the protagonist which saves the day. In the trailer she seems to be incorporated in everyone's story and is everyone seems to lean on her for support. She doesn't wear provocative clothes and the role she plays isn't objectifying but is a role which normally men play.

In Doctor foster she doesnt wear provocative clothes or play an objectifying role but does feed into the stereotype that women a controlling, jealous and over protective.

3)
The target audience for both of them is murder mystery/mystery fans. Both tv series are dramatic and incorporate an ominous atmosphere. All the characters have secrets to hide which the audience knows which creates dramatic irony, but there is one overall rulling mystery which the audience doesn't know which keeps them engaged in Dr Foster its whether her husband is cheating on her and in Top of the lake its why was the women washed up in the suitcase.
