The male gaze

Taylor Swift

1) I think her video was empowering because females got the roles that men normally have for example men normally get to be spy's which get to do stunts they got to do stunts. Also the women in this video were shown to be soldiers/protagonists in Taylor Swifts army this signifies that the women were presented as strong and fearless.

2) I think the women were in control because at the start of the video they were fighting working men with office jobs.

3) I think the videos were aimed at females because Taylor swifts fan base is mostly females, but they did have skimpy clothing (not as skimpy as either Justins or Rihanas) which they could of worn to entice males into watching it but not all the women had skimpy clothing and which could imply that the females in the video had more choice over what they wanted to wear.

Justin Timberlake

1) I think that it was degrading because only the woman were naked but the men were not which was objectifying. They used mise-en-scene as his face was projected on the naked women on some ofthe scene the connotations of this image could be that he was eyeing them up or he owned them.

2)The men were in control as they didn't take their clothes of which could mean that they had a choice in whether they wanted to take their clothes off.

3)I think the video was aimed at men because their were naked women which could of bee used to entice men to watch it. Also the camera lingered where the women's curves were which would be more in context of a mans reaction to the events.

Rihanna

1) I think it was degrading because they were dancing in little clothing  and there were only women dancing which were dancing which is objectifying but not as objectifying as Justin Timberlakes video as Rihanna the person who was singing was dancing seductively as well as the background dancers.

2) I think that the women were in control because Rihanna wore just as little clothing as her background dancers which could mean she had more of a choice in what she wanted to wear.

3) It was more aimed at men because they used mise-en-scene as the women were dancing round poles and mostly men go to strip clubs.

The singer wasn't in the video but the men in the video were lip syncing, the relationship that they had with the audience is that they would of attracted there following to watch her video as they were famous.

The lip syncers look at the audience seductively as the camera/ the focus is mainly on their face.

The video is about role reversal  so it is the opposite of male gaze. She puts males in situations that are provocative that females are normally put in. In the mise en scene they had rose petals being thrown on them and cake fights. This role reversal makes the audience particularly female audience have the power as the men are bieng objectified. They also use mise en scene by using colour such as red and pink these colour signify love.

Versace on the floor

Is a video which uses male gaze as the video has a female being undressed but the male in the video is not the connotations are that he can seduce her without being there and through just him singing. The use of mise en scene is through the dim lighting, the fact that she is in a hotel bedroom and her low v neck short dress. The singer or the actor isn't looking at the audience as the video is bout sexual tension in the room. The actress in the video is making provocative faces while Bruno Mars is playing a piano. The target audience is probably males as the video is about her getting undressed, as the connection is between the two people in the video to the audience it seems like they are looking at what goes on behind closed doors but in a more magic way as he undresses her without being in the room.

Colors by Halsey

The song is about a mother and a daughter who seem to fancy a farther and a son throughout the video they obsess over them and flirt with them and become slightly obsessed as the girl stalks them in a few scenes but at the end of the video there is a plot twist and the audience finds out that the girl fancied the farther. The audience follows the girl how she deals with having a crush throughout a period of time. The male gaze isn't as present in this video as there are only a couple of scenes where the women are in there underwear but this video does follow this chasing the two men which could back up the stereotype that females are obsessive over men. But also there are a few scenes where the males had there shirt off. The video leads the audience through the story. The video uses mise en scene as it the video is dimly lit and focuses on the womens bodies when thjey are in their underwear.
