Big issue covers analysis
To reflect the eccentricity of David Bowie they have used a white background so that the colours of the face paint on his face stand out also they have made his eyes a different colour to make him look like an alien. They have done an exact front photograph of his face and shoulders which makes him look like he is looking directly at the reader. He has his signature hair and makeup so that he is easily recognizable. They have used a very white light to highlight his pale skin and to emphasize the vividness of his face paint. They have used an animated green font for his name which he uses for most other things and to match the font of his name they have used the same green as the colour of the big issue font. Bellow the David Bowie typography they have a statement about what he represents in pop culture which is the strap lines. They have done this in black with a more structured font, the black makes it stand out and draws attention to it.
Simon Cowell is known for being brutally honest to reflect this in the front cover the have scribbled devil horns and tail in a childish manner as it looks like vandalism on the newspaper. On the front in white bold caps lock letters they put " are you tempted?" on his face which is something a devil would say, this font has large kernings. All of this anchors down the meaning of the front page as it is all trying to show that he is like the devil.. The big issue masthead is also in red and has been put in the top centre of the newspaper To balance out the devel-lish tone they have put a blue background on it which has a halo/ombre affect which is from the light which was used to light his face, this draws direct attention to the face. Like the David Bowie front cover they have done a front on shot only showing his face and shoulders, the picture of him is placed in the centre of the magazine and takes up most of the space which instantly conveys to the audience who is on the front cover, this could be the house style of the magazine. Simon Cowell is wearing a basic black shirt. There is alot of white space on this on this cover making it more simplistic than the other two covers.
