News: An Evolving Media Product

The Daily Mail have a large Headline which is there main story and a large picture to go with it but as you scroll down there are more subheadings with only one paragraph which is used to draw the reader in. The many catchy headlines and subheadings make the reader want to keep scrolling. The news is free and easily accessible if you have wifi. They report many negative things about deaths, celebrity's and influential people which is what their audience would want to read about as its lower class to lower middle class news. They write some of the same stories but write about them in different ways for examples the guardian is more factual and the daily mail is more over exaggerated. I think online news attracts a younger generation as they have grown up with technology and reading on the internet whereas print attracts the older generation which has gotten used to reading off print and would not want to or know how to get it through the internet. This is shown clearly on people going on daily commutes on trains the younger generation are in their laptops and phones and most of  the older generation are seen reading broadsheets.

I think they invest more capital on there online brand as free online news is the main reason there is a decline in sales of newspaper so if the decline keeps happening the new site will become more popular and produce more money.

I think both brands generate income and profit through there internet news sites because they have adverts which companies pay to be put on their website, there website can include multiple poster adverts and video adverts which play as soon as they reach the news story brands do this so then hopefully the audience will click on it and it will send them to a direct link to there website or raise awareness for there product.

on some of the news stories readers can comment and share there opinions or read others opinion in a comment section this could make the reader feel like they are part of a community or that they are more included in the new publication. Another interactive element is that they can put multiple videos on their news site, Videos from the live event could makes the reader feel like they know more about the present scene and gives a more in detail copy of what happened. Top the top of there news stories they both have a bar of genres of stories for example they both have bars with influential countries names on it which the audience may be intrigued about.

There are videos in each of the news story and more photos as they dont have to confide to a smaller space as they would do in a newspaper, the videos are too provide more information by doing it visually. As you scroll down there are news story's listed to the right which is there so if the reader is bored/ finished with the current news story's one from the list would catch there eye and keep them on the website. In the newspaper there are pictures and subheadings of story's that are in the newspaper. Instead of a poster as an advert they have small videos and many more small posters on the side of the news site on the news story this could make them more revenue. They have a messy layout which makes the reader feel as if they have found something good when they find something they want to read and also it shows that everywhere they look there is a catchy headline and much to read. On the bar of news genres they could pick the daily mail have choices that he guardian does not such as showbiz&tv, femail and fashion finder these genres were based on news stories which were popular amongst there audience. Their use of puns to attract their audience is use as they have femail which is a made up word.

As the guardian is more of a middle class and upper class newspaper there audience want to know about facts and about world and political news as updating a website is easier than printing a newspaper they give live updates on what is happening within ongoing news story. To keep an ongoing aesthetic they use the layout of the newspaper and colors that they would have in a newspaper on the website to make it more familiar(they do the same for the daily mail). Just like the daily mail they have video adverts and posters which they use to get revenue and they have more news story's on the side of there page which to entice the reader to keep on  the page. The guardian keep the same ideologies by having the more blunt headlines which have stories which gives a more factual and less exaggerated and dramatic version of the news story. They have live updates which keeps the audience updated on the news story if it if it is ongoing news the updates could keep the audiences attentive and help them keep going back on the sites.Their page is more clean cut and well layed out with only the top and current headlines being highlighted which gives the audience a clear view on which is the most important just like a news paper would have the most important story as the headline and give other important stories a larger amount of space and a larger heading than smaller less significant stories. In the top bar of different genres of new the guardians differ from the daily mail as it features more worldly intellectual thing such as politics, business and environment these subjects will cater to there audience which are more wing and would prefer to hear about news around the world than celebrity news.
