The Paradise Papers story coverage

1) The language between the daily mail and the guardian  is that the guardian has used the word controversial which means its edging social norms. Then they say exploiting the reader then thinks that the queen is taking advantage of the people in the country. The daily mail use words such as dragged which victimizes the queen and emphasizes that she is innocent. The also mention that it is offshore which makes the reader think that it does not concern their country as much as it does, this differs the guardian because they used to the term exploiting which makes the reader feel as if they are more directly affected than the daily mail. They accuse the queen of exploiting the poor as the monarch of the country she should be doing the opposite so they are suggesting she doesn't care about the people of Britain.

The guardian have a socialist ideology even though they are pro capitalist they challenge this view, the front cover shows this as they challenge whether having a queen is a good decision they show this by being critical on her, press like this which would be controversial if the government controlled what they could release. The daily mail is pro monarchy and shows this through their language as the victimize the queen and softens the story and doesn't dramatize it in the way that the guardian does.

The guardian uses the queen as a symbol for the 'global elite' and they are using he story to show how other elites are doing the same thing, this may convey to the audiences that people who have a generally positive views shows how people may not be as good as they seem and challenges their morals.

The guardian news paper is a broadsheet which is £2 which means that it should have more information on it than most other newspapers like the daily mail which is a tabloid that is 60p so their will be less content this may be because their audience don't want to read much as they are lower class and that thy may not want to pay for a £2 newspaper because it may not be in their budget.

They use uses and gratification theory guardian audiences may have the same views with the guardian and read it because of that, because guardian readers are more educated they will think of what the queen has done more analytically where as the daily mail audiences may have more of a general perspective on the queen and think that she is good because generally the queen has a positive perspective. Because the newspapers have different ideologies they will have information which will be biased towards those ideologies. The media for the guardian audience may entertain them by giving them facts.  The daily mail audiences might do it through entertainment and escapism by reading about celebrities lives such as the queen which they view as perfect. The guardian audience may want to have a discussion about what they have learnt because they are typically viewed as well educated and would like to share their opinions where as the daily mail audiences may not want to discuss it  but like how people have the same view as they do.

The uses and gratification of the daily mail: The audience identifies with the newspaper through the people that they put in it so the celebrities they put in it. They also identify with the values so in the daily mail the audience is generally not as well educated as the guardian as they are lower middle class and lower class so they have a more general less analytical view of the scandal, so their view of the monarchy is positive. Because the daily mail knows what their audience is they can give them the type of news they would like to read. To keep within the view of the monarch being good they have written about how the queen has been dragged into the scandal by using words such as 'dragged' which victimizes he queen and the words 'row' this word is powerful as the queen is never seen having a row as she has a polite and well mannered status to uphold, which reassures the daily mails views presumptions on the situations that the queen had no part in this. They are providing entertainment in this story through escapism as the queen has been 'dragged' into this scandal but has been portrayed as innocent and has people to back this up. This is escapism as if people who read the daily mail got into a tax scandal they would be prosecuted and incarcerated. Also it builds up this view that the country that they live in is a immaculately ran country and creates an illusion that where thy live is perfect as the story does not challenge the queen or the monarch which contributes to the positive view the audience has on the queen.  They could use this information to discuss their views with other daily mail readers or they could just read it to get a short easy to read update on whats happening in the world so they can have an understanding of what people are talking about.

2) The guardian raised a series of newspaper outlining the topic and they used a yellow colour to link all the stories because yellow is an attention grabbing color, also its because the story includes celebrities which attracts the attention of the public to make the most out of this , this news story is a big one and they are trying to use it for as long as its popular because they know that they will sell more papers than usual also it fits into their socialist ideologies. They did four newspaper stories about it in four days to push their socialist point of view, they did this to challenge the audience's opinions on the rich and how they have ways out of paying tax. By emphasizing this by doing multiple headlines on it it makes the audience think about the morals of the rich more. The guardian sell their newspapers to upper middle class audiences so they are not vert rich so they would agree with the inequality which is between them and the very rich. Newspapers are self regulated they can put emphasis and can publish multiple newspapers about a controversial topic as it includes people such as the queen because she is part of the monarchy and parliament.

The guardian did four story on the paradise papers, which emphasizes the story so their audience think the scandal is breaking news, which creates negative attention on the monarch which puts pressure on their following actions. The guardian are trying to persuade to the audience that their views on the queen are right and as their audiences read the guardian because they have the same political views the guardian uses this to their advantage and veers them in a way that their ideologies are steered to be stronger than they were before they read the newspaper for example they might of seen the story briefly on a news outlet such as bbc news on tv and known about the story briefly and then they read the guardian and their views on the story become stronger because the guardian give them a bias socialist point of view.

3) The mirror used paradise papers story as their headline in their front page. They use a number a number which is 10m to shock their audiences on how much money the queen had stored away which challenges whether the queen should have that much money, also by giving a figure to show how rich the queen is they use her as a symbol of the elite to show how other unsuspecting and suspecting elitist do the same thin. They also use the word scandal, the word scandal means that the queen is doing something which is morally or legally wrong, which makes the audience challenge her actions and also puts negative attention on the the queen. They also say that it is the'queens' scandal which conveys that she is the ones making the decisions which paints the queen as a bad person and more so emphasizes the negative attention on her.

The independent has a more bias socialist view as they use a field of negative word about the queen. In their heading for the story they use the words exposed which is  means that they have revealed the truth but a dark truth like someone doing a crime so it has negative connotations around it. This may be to show their socialist ideologies but may be a way to present an unbiased argument as the queens offshore investments have been exposed.

The daily express uses the word 'row' and states that it is over 'the queens '£10 million' which conveys that the queen isn't in the argument as 'rows' are not commonly associated with the queen as she is well mannered. Also it victimizes her as it conveys that other people are arguing over the queens money which she has no control over.

4)They use the phrase 'accused of exploiting people with mental health problems' The word exploits means take advantage, this conveys that the queen or has low morals. They also use words like 'reveal' this that they think what the queen did was a big deal and those things are revealed like secrets. Also they highlighted the word 'revealed' in red which has connotations of crime and alert. Also in their title they used the phrase ' secrets of the super rich' which conveys to the reader that it is gossip like news about higher class people.

The mirror in their online article uses the word 'secrets' which makes the audience wonder what the secrets are so it makes them want to read on and by using the words 'rich and wealthy'  middle class people would want to know how they gained their wealth because they want to be as wealthy and also its intriguing and escapism to read about a life that isn't theirs.

5) The readers political ideology from looking at the hashtag is  negative things such as the BBC is "covering up" the queens offshore tax dodge and " as long as we sort out the wealth gap we can hold our heads high" another commenter commented how Hamilton "pretends to support charities" when infarct he is taking money from people. The first comment has a tone where it challenges what the media is doing because the reader is not happy with the offshore tax dodging. This reflects the guardians view on things where they challenge  the elites morals, the person who owns the elite owns BBC news which could show how they sympathize with the queen. The commenter being unhappy with the scandal could show how they have a socialist point of view also the other comment shows this as well as they would like to decreases the pay gap, this obviously a big issue that they have because they emphasized their happiness by saying that they could hold their head high. The third comment was a comment which had a disappointed tone with Hamilton as they exposed that they he is taking money out from unfortunate people. All these comments had a negative tone which shows how the negative news stories have affected the public and how they are also now challenging and speculating around the people who are involved within it.
