Evaluating footage

For the scene where a European man wore a skirt i think that we did well on replicating the background as it looks quite similar, but in the original they used natural lighting which we didn't, this effected our scene as there was a reflection of the artificial lights on the window. For the framing of the shot we didn't stand further away enough to full see that the model was wearing a skirt. As for props the skirt looked quite similar to the one in the video and the way the model moved he went to hold the sign and the way he stood was similar to the model in the original advert.

For scene the dress like a girl scene we did it in a white room because we didn't have the background necessary to exactly replicate it. To try to imitate the sparkly corridor we took a video of the model walking towards lights, this turned out well as the dress was black and so were the body of the light stand but the background was white and so was the light emitting from the lights, so this created a monochromatic background.  Then we took a video of the model in a white background doing the same actions of the model from the original video, what we could've done better is that we should've taken the video further back so the audience could see that it was a dress, this hindered the message that we wanted conveyed. Also we should've used the lights as the background and as it would've made the background. To convey the message "dress like a girl" we decided to have a male model wear a dress this conveyed the message as  a male dressing femininely.

For the scene which takes place in a restaurant we used an empty classroom as the background, in the background of the original there were customers and workers in the restaurant, to recreate this busy scene we  decided to have a wall of posters, this wasn't as successful as the original as it took away from the main focus of the two girls and didn't convey the message of  standing out. The original shot was successful as the lighting and colours of the background were warm and everything else was a blur, and the extras which were the customers and servers were cut out which what made the two people stand out as they wore vibrant colours such as their hats and architectural sunglasses. What went well was the frame of the shot and how the camera panned as it was similar to the original video which flowed smoothly. What went unsuccessfully is that the models did not have similar hats and clothing which also stopped conveying the message of standing out, they were also not as confident as the original video which was a key aspect of the original shot being successful and conveying the message of standing out and being care free about it.

The framing of this shot is different as the women in the original is centered between two windows with vertical metal bars, the street that she is standing on has parallel vertical lines because drop between the pathway and the curb the model is standing side on and they are looking down at a parking meter, the wall is ombre pink and has horizontal lines of pink, there is also a shadow of an electricity pole. I think the ours conveys the same colours at it is a red to and a red wall and it has a window with vertical lines and the bricks are horizontal and there is a vertical line in the wall.

The original is successful as everything is a vertical or horizontal line which emphasis's the curvy women this could replicate how the fashion industry promotes straight sized models and the women in it is a model and it shows how she is different, so it is going against the norms of fashion. The lighting is brighter in the original as it is in a hot place and we are filming in winter. This makes the original successful as the ambient daylight lighting  on the pink walls conveys positive as it is a warm colour and warm has connotations of being cozy and comfortable, which shows how the women is comfortable wearing vibrant clothes. We tried to replicate the pink background by using a red brick wall and a red top. The original is successful as the trousers are the same vibrant shade as the wall, this conveys how the women is being bold by wearing bright colours. In the original  the camera is further away which captures more of the vertical and horizontal lines, we used a hand held camera whereas the person filming the original probably used a tripod to make sure that the camera doesn't move and to make sure the straight lines weren't wonky. Although our video isn't exactly the same i think that our model looks confident, and the vibrant red top replicates the one that the model is wearing.

In the original video the man was outside at nigh time in the rain in the umbrella, but ours was done inside in a white room. This doesn't have the same effect as it doesn't show that it is nigh time, therefore doesn't convey the message that he is wearing brown shoes at nighttime. We had our model wearing a coat indoors which didn't make sense. To recreate the dark out doors we decided to shoot it in the white room in the dark. I think we got the frame right and i think it looks steady and clean like the original which has the same effect.

In the part where it was stand out blend in, we used one person wearing a large round hat and then another two also wearing a large round hat, i think we did the framing well but the one person didn't stand out enough.

The framing for dress like a teen was good and the filming was smooth and i think it convey the message.

As a group i think at the beginning we were quite organised but we were late finishing the ad so the organization could of been better.

We used cameras and editing software which increased our skills as we haven't used them before so it was new and will help when we do the actual thing.

I think we were inventive in trying to copy the video exactly with the props we had but i think we could've been more original and kept less to the structured brief.

Next time i think we should try and be more organised as it will make the project easier and we will be on time to finish it.
