Dance music video analysis



Music video 1 

This music videos narrative is of Avicii travelling as he is trying to live a full life. The mise en scene: he doesn't use a costume, but he does wear relaxed everyday clothing which contributes to the video as it is like a video diary. They used natural lighting and natural colours unlike lights from a studio, this emphasizes the fact that it was a self made video for example he stands in front of a sunrise which are all different colours . The location of the video was the places he traveled to such as a tropical beach and popular monuments in different countries. His facial expressions change depending on what he is doing, when he is jet skiing  he looks excited and when he is looking at past of photos he looks reminiscent.   
The camera work is hand held while he is travelling which is why it is shudders, the effect if this is that it makes the audience feel like they are present with them. 







The editing is not chronological and skips to different parts of his trip, what is happening in the video for example when whether he is jumping of a cliff or reminiscing on photos is intrinsically linked to the pace and the beat if the music.

The music video is of the artist singing on a bed which has white flowing material and the artist is wearing a dress of the same material, this makes it look like a dream/ a cloud. The video cuts to other dancers in bright clothing dancing on a bed in the middle of a

Analysis of mad men. The scene starts with a birds eye shot of the street, they use digetic sound through sound of the cars and they use mise en scene through the old cars, this is to establish that the office is in New York. Then the camera cuts to a shot of them entering an elevator there is fast pate instrumental non digetic music  from the era to emphasize the fast paste of the business world. They use digetic sound as when they reach the floor the elevator bings. They us mise en scene as the men are all wearing suits and the one women is wearing clothes from the era. Burn the witch and un-finished symphony comparison. Unfinished symphony used their video to represent street life to raise awareness of what a lower class neighborhood in los angles looked like uninterrupted where as Burn the Witch uses characters from a popular children's television show to show part of the narrative from the movie the wicker man which is intertextuality, the two story lines of the children television show and the wicker man juxtaposes ecahother.
