History of dance music

Disco: 

It emerged in the late 1970's, the audience was originally club goers at it was played at disco's. It came through a reaction of rock music it was most popular between 1970 - 1980. From traditional African music jazz came from it then swing then disco. 

House:

It was a mix of disco music and euro-disco, which makes it a descendant of disco it was originally played in Chicago warehouses. House is in the genre of electronic dance music, they use repetitive mechanical 4/4 beats. It was pioneered by DJ Frankie Knuckles, it was popular in the us and then some of the independent labels made it in the UK


Techno:

Techno music is a form of electronic dance music, it began in 1988. It was a blend of African american music and electric jazz with electronic music. The tempo varies between 120- 150 beats per minute and uses music production technology to produce its electric sound.Detroit techno is seen as the foundation of techno. It has futuristic themes which reflected late capitalist america.




EDM:

 Edm stems from disco music, techno music, house music, and trance music. It was popular as it was played in nightclubs, warehouses, and the early rave scene of the acid house movement all in the late 1980's. In the mid-1980s and early 1990s, disco’s popularity declined, but electronic  was the new popular dance music.

Big issue covers analysis  To reflect the eccentricity of David Bowie they have used a white background so that the colours of the face paint on his face stand out also they have made his eyes a different colour to make him look like an alien. They have done an exact front photograph of his face and shoulders which makes him look like he is looking directly at the reader. Analysis of mad men. The scene starts with a birds eye shot of the street, they use digetic sound through sound of the cars and they use mise en scene through the old cars, this is to establish that the office is in New York. Then the camera cuts to a shot of them entering an elevator there is fast pate instrumental non digetic music  from the era to emphasize the fast paste of the business world. They use digetic sound as when they reach the floor the elevator bings. They us mise en scene as the men are all wearing suits and the one women is wearing clothes from the era. Burn the witch and un-finished symphony comparison. Unfinished symphony used their video to represent street life to raise awareness of what a lower class neighborhood in los angles looked like uninterrupted where as Burn the Witch uses characters from a popular children's television show to show part of the narrative from the movie the wicker man which is intertextuality, the two story lines of the children television show and the wicker man juxtaposes ecahother.
