The impact of technological change on newspapers

The telegraph

News sites such as the telegraph have premium news which they give you the first paragraph and hen as you scroll down you find the deals which they give you to which you have to sign up to in order to read the rest of the news. For example you ca get a 30 day free trial and then it becomes £2 every week or they give you an alternative where you an get amazon prime and the telegraph fr £100 for 12 months, or if you sign up you can get one premium article per week. The collaboration with amazon prime makes the deal more enticing as many people want have amazon and would want amazon prime, a yearly amazon prime subscriptions is £79 which means that they are only then playing £20 for a yearly subscriptions which costs less than paying £2 a week. They have a paywall to protect revenue and profit.

The guardian

To keep in the guardians socialist views they ask for volunteers to sign up to an email.

They have pop up adverts which companies pay to have them pop up on their website this is because if the reader clicks on the advert it will take the straight to the website and it also raises awareness and promotes the brand. The guardian have less pop up than the daily mail

The daily mail

They  also have pop up adverts which companies pay to have them pop up on their website this is to raises awareness and promote the brand.

The mirror

The mirror have a pop up video which borders the top of the screen which pops up once you've clicked on an article, it is large and hard to ignore unlike the guardian and the daily mails adverts. They have the adverts instead of the pay wall because they want their news sight to be accessible too all audiences.

The independent

They ask volunteers to sign up to an email which is the ,ail thing they promote alongside there promoted stories at the side of their stories these may be stories writers payed money for them to promote. They also have pop up adverts but less than any other news site. They have an email that they can sign up to so they can send emails to their audience telling them about news stories to try and get them to return as much as possible

Interaction with online news

Newspapers prompt their readers to interact with their online with their online news through the use of social media and paid adverts. They use social media by setting up accounts on twitter Instagram and facebook for users to follow them on which they post about news stories on their website which they have a link to or they post a bit of the the story and the reader has to click the link to see the rest.
They use pop up adverts by seeing if you have previously gone on there website and paid adverts on social media will pop up to get them the audience to click on the advert to send them to the new site.

Shirkys end of audience theory.

All the news sites now have many more news stories that if you were going to buy a newspaper, this is for the reader to choose what they consume instead of a traditional news paper editor choosing what enters a news paper so every consumer becomes a producer as they are choosing what they are reading. Also they use a lot of citizen journalism such as live photos and videos which means that possible consumer are helping produce the story and their photos add key information which a journalist may not of had.
